Spotting scopes are constructed for daytime usage and are mostly used for exploring nature, watching birds, sport shooting and observation and security purposes. They are selectively available with straight view or angled view (45°). Due to the compact design short focal lengths can be achieved. Usual magnifications at fixed focal lengths are 15x, 20x, 30x, 45x. Models with zoom lenses are usually equipped with a magnification range of 15-45x, 20-60x or 20-80x. High quality models are usually equipped with interchangeable lenses and ED glass for chromatic aberration compensation and brighter, clearer viewing.
